Not every new idea is going to win you over. There’s probably a few political opinions trending right now that don’t convince you, no matter how incessantly people laud them as progressive. If you consider yourself conservative, there’s probably more than a few.
Congratulations! You have an important job. You’re the one who can bring nuance, perspective, and healthy skepticism to those ideas. Your voice is needed.
It’s easy to let that job get to one’s head, though. It’s intoxicating to feel like the last sane person in the world, like the last bastion of common sense. It’s easy to become mean about it, too. One can always justify it as the only way to snap people out of their delusions.
That voice, that power trip, is not needed so much.
